Having been in business for over 28 years, we\u2019ve seen firsthand what it takes to keep these cars running smoothly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"385\" data-end=\"625\">One key rule of thumb: <strong data-start=\"408\" data-end=\"463\">The larger the engine, the higher the repair costs.<\/strong> And if your vehicle comes with a sport package, like <em>BMW\u2019s M Sport<\/em> or <strong>Mercedes\u2019 AMG<\/strong>, you can expect repair costs to increase even more, often disproportionately.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"627\" data-end=\"677\"><strong>Why Do Sport Packages Increase Repair Costs?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"679\" data-end=\"847\">Sport packages enhance a vehicle\u2019s performance, particularly in handling and braking. However, these upgrades also come with significant maintenance and repair costs:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"1710\">\n<li data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"1049\"><strong data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"862\">Brakes:<\/strong> Sport models typically feature larger, multi-piston brake calipers, which cost about <strong data-start=\"948\" data-end=\"966\">1.5 times more<\/strong> than standard braking systems. Unfortunately, they do not last 1.5 times longer.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1237\"><strong data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1062\">Tires:<\/strong> Staggered ultra-high-performance (UHP) tires wear out much faster,<strong data-start=\"1129\" data-end=\"1152\">often twice as fast<\/strong> as standard tires, due to their softer rubber compound and high, performance design.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1411\"><strong data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1255\">Suspension:<\/strong> Many sport packages include electronically adjustable shock absorbers that provide better handling. These shocks cost <strong data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1391\">twice as much<\/strong> as standard ones.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1710\"><strong data-start=\"1414\" data-end=\"1443\">SUVs with Sport Packages:<\/strong> If you opt for a sport package on an SUV, be prepared for even steeper costs. On average, repairs for a performance SUV increase by a factor of <strong data-start=\"1588\" data-end=\"1595\">1.5<\/strong>, along with higher fuel consumption. As we like to say: <strong data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1708\">\u201cPigs (SUVs) do fly \u2014 but it takes a lot more effort!\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1712\" data-end=\"1745\"><strong>Making an Informed Decision<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1747\" data-end=\"2013\">We share this information not to discourage you from buying a BMW or Mercedes with a sport package, but to ensure you make an informed decision.
