Diesel Mercedes, diesel BMW?

The usual questions we get; What do you think? Should I buy a diesel or gas powered automobile?

To put it promptly a diesel powered automobile, car or SUV designed and meant for long distance driving only. They not meant to perform for short trips or daily errands, due to the extensive complex emission control systems on board.

Diesel car’s emission control system needs to be self  cleaned intermittently just like your oven at home. The diesel particulate filter needs to be regenerated periodically which should not be interrupted multiple times or the check engine light will be illuminated.

Most European cars or trucks hate short distance driving, due to the fact they are built for the Autobahn where it will be driven at high speed so it gets a so called proper circulation.

Proper circulation ensures that the motor oil stays clean and filtered same applies to the diesel particulate filter as well which in turn extends the life of the engine and emission components. We have numerous clients with extreme mileage because their cars are distance driven regularly.

Diesel equipped cars or trucks will only return their investment if driven extra long distances like someone is on the road and travels a lot in my calculations at least 40 thousand kilometers a year, otherwise it will not be economical at all in the long term.

2013 Mercedes Benz Diesel GLK & Porsche Cayenne with Clean Diesel Engine

Diesel engines getting popular here in North America, mainly in Canada, but US catching up too. Why so? Because the new clean diesel engine’s efficiency is greater than a regular gasoline engine. It’s mean better fuel mileages, more power ( more torque), and cleaner exhaust gas.

The new clean diesel technologies has brought harmful diesel emission levels to near zero. The old times’ smelly diesel cars are history…

Clean diesel systems are both fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. When compared with comparable gasoline powered passenger cars, clean diesel engine powered vehicles offer 30 – 40 % better fuel economy, much more better emissions without power and or performance lass.

In fact, the latest clean diesel engines provide 50 percent better torque in some cases.

For example, the 2013 Mercdes GLK Class will be the sixth Mercedes model to offer a diesel option in North America, joining the likes of the E, S, M, R and GL Class models, which all feature a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine.

The GLK will come with a 2.1-liter four cylinder turbo diesel engine installed. It will produce 204 horsepower and 369 pound feet of torque. This  engine is already  emissions certified for the US and for Canada too.

From 2013, the  Porsche Cayenne will be offered in Canada with a turbodiesel 3.0L V6 engine option.

This diesel Porsche  motor is capable of producing 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Because that torque available from a very low 1750 rpm, this diesel performance is impressive. It goes from 0-100 km in 7.6 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 218 km  / hour. And it is just a small 3 liters V6 diesel engine.
